Dear Little Bunny,
Think for a moment…
What is it that makes you worry that you’ll never be an Easter Bunny?
Does it seem like there have been too many days in which your plans to make little gifts and sacrifices to God, by saying no to yourself and yes to others…just didn’t happen?
Or maybe you did those sacrifices, but it felt like no one noticed. So did it really matter anyway?
Even Jesus can understand those feelings. He came to show people how to love God and each other with their whole hearts. During this very week long long ago, his efforts seemed to be ending in the biggest disaster.
For three years, he had taught people. He healed people. He laughed with people. He cried with people. He fed people. He blessed and prayed for people. He was even good to bad people.
But during Holy Week, the people whom he loved so much, denied how good He was and arrested Him. Some people lied and said he was a bad guy and had him put to death on a cross. Even most of the ones who loved Him and were His true friends ran away and hid.
It looked like all that he worked for had failed.
But what the people forgot or maybe didn’t believe, was that He is God.
His love is bigger than life. His love is bigger than death. Yes, he died, but He didn’t stay dead! After 3 days, he was alive again and full of the greatest love in heaven and earth! And He offers that love and life to fill up the heart of each and every one who chooses to love Him too!
And if I know one thing…I know you can choose to love Him, more than carrots, more than surprises, more than anything!
Think about that…and keep doing the sacrifices and kindnesses even when they seem not to matter to anyone.
Do that, and you will be an Easter Bunny by Sunday! I promise!

The sorrowful events of Jesus’ passion and death may seem fearful to young children. They can pretend to stay with Jesus in His sad moments, helping lift His sorrow just a little, and be confident knowing that Jesus will be with them when they are worried or scared, and that His love is strong enough to take their fears away!
