pocket bunny

Dear Little Bunny,

I was determined. I was not…going…to…eat…turnips!

I climbed into the pocket of a jacket hanging on a hook near our burrow for a while. Mamma called my name. Everyone was gathering together for dinner. I stayed put.

She sent big brother and sister bunny to look for me. I heard them looking and calling for me.  My stomach started to growl, but I stayed put.

She had invited the chipmunk family over for dinner in my honor to celebrate that I was doing so well and that I had gotten over half way through Easter Bunny training.  They all started looking for me. I could hear all of them calling for me. Even Papa was calling for me. They sounded worried, but I stayed put.

I realized that I was making a disaster of the nice dinner Mamma planned for me. I was also realizing that the longer I hid, the more trouble I’d be in, but I stayed put.

I felt paralyzed.

If I came out, I’d be in trouble and have to eat turnips…if I stayed hidden, the family would think the worst, and be worried and I’d wreck the nice dinner. Actually, by now, the worry and wrecking dinner part had pretty much already happened. What could I do?? There seemed to be no good solution. I felt terrible.

I decided to pray.

It seemed like I needed a miracle, and I knew only God can do miracles.

Dear Grandpa Bunny,

That sounds bad! What happened?

Love, Little Bunny

Dear Little Bunny,

It was bad.  It was one of the worst nights of my life.  As I cowered in that pocket, I prayed.

I said, “God, I’m so sorry that I’ve made such a mess of things. Please forgive me for refusing to make a little sacrifice for you and for making such problems for my Mamma and Pappa. Jesus, be with me. Show me what to do!”

By this time, I had a few tears in my eyes and I was sniffling.

I’m so sorry Little Bunny, but  that’s all I can write for now. You’ll have to wait (hopefully not alone, cramped, and hiding in a pocket) till tomorrow.

I promise, I’ll tell you how it all worked out.

Love,

GP “Pocket” Bunny
