Dear Grandpa Bunny,
I love hearing your stories. You give me such great ideas!
However, there’s something I’d like to ask your help with.
You said before that you used to be afraid a lot. What made you less afraid? I feel like fear gets in the way of everything I try to do.
Dear Little Bunny,
I understand. Fear does get in the way…of joy, of peace…of most anything good. What I discovered is that prayer solves the problem of fear. Let me explain.
I remember one time I was out exploring, looking for some sweet clover blossoms to munch on. The air suddenly felt cooler. Dark clouds covered the sun and raindrops started to fall. Lightning flashed and thunder pounded the air around me. I was terrified. I leapt from the grass over to the corner of a rock wall nearby. There were stacks of clay pots and bowls on either side of me. The lightning flashed again. I waited for the thunder blast to follow. The sky shook and the wind blew, hard. As I pressed close to a stack of pots, the one on top tumbled down on me. It landed upside down and I was trapped inside.
At first , I was relieved not to have been squashed, and now I was out of the rain. I looked up and could see the lightning flash through a little hole in the middle of the pot. I tried to push on the one side of the pot. Then I tried to push on the other. It wouldn’t budge. I was stuck… and tired, and so afraid. I shivered under that pot for a long time.
Surprisingly, the tiredness won out. I fell asleep.
Time for me, and my story, to rest. More tomorrow. I promise.
Love, GP Bunny
For the Big Bunnies… This week’s letters have the theme of “HELP!” Grandpa Bunny will show the little bunnies that reaching out to God with our mind and heart in prayer is powerful. Prayer changes things, sometimes miraculously. Mostly, prayer changes us. Even when our circumstances stay the same, our situation is different because in prayer we acknowledge we are not alone. God is with us. Always caring. Ready to carry us.
He’s here to listen, and to love. That’s all the help we ever need!
Prayer is one of the keys to a successful Lent. (It’s also essential in being a good Easter Bunny!)
