All For You Jesus! – Grandpa Bunny Letter #3

Dear Grandpa Bunny,

If I make more room for the love of Jesus in my heart, will that make me an Easter Bunny?

Love,  Your Little bunny

Dear Little Bunny,

You are on the right track! That is how the first Easter Bunny became an Easter Bunny!

Let me explain. This is not something everyone knows. Though I have been an Easter Bunny for many, many years, I am not the original or the ONLY Easter Bunny. It all began long long ago. Being an Easter Bunny doesn’t allow us to magically live for over a thousand years. We bunnies just treasure the gift of being an Easter Bunny so much that we have passed the tradition on from bunny, to bunny, to bunny all these years.

When Great Grand Bunny met Jesus on that first Easter, the love of Jesus fill his heart with JOY.  And now, when you make room for Jesus’ love to fill your heart with JOY then you will be an Easter Bunny too!

We can never have too many Easter Bunnies!

You can make room in your heart in many ways. You can give little gifts of yourself. You can call them “God Gifts”. They can be a “suffering gift” when you are brave when a boo-boo hurts. They can be a “sacrifice gift” when you give something you want… to someone else. Or they can simply be a “smiley gift” when you are extra nice to someone who needs a smile. They become “God Gifts” when you say the special words: “All for you Jesus!” We Easter Bunnies actually just say, “A4UJ!” and we know He understands!

Here are some examples. Is it still cold outside? Perhaps even snowy? Does the cold blow right through your fur? Make each shiver a sign of love for Jesus.  Or find a friend and help them get warm and pray quietly… A4UJ!

Do you sometimes complain when things don’t go the way you want? Love Jesus instead.

Do you love carrots? Love Jesus by sharing some.

Do you love helping Mamma with the baby rabbits? Love Jesus by helping more!

Those are my ideas. I’m sure you’ll have plenty of your own.

An old, but not original, Easter Bunny

PS: Remind the other bunnies that they can read the story of the original Easter Bunny in the book, Easter Bunny’s Amazing Day! That’s where the cute picture of the bunny and Jesus is from.

Lent with Grandpa Bunny and Me is a series of wonderful posts designed for a parent, grandparent or teacher to read aloud to a young child. Each short post fills a child’s imagination with a desire, not to receive something from an Easter bunny, but to become one by allowing the love and JOY of Jesus to fill his or her heart.

Each week of Lent has a faith building theme woven into the daily letters and stories shared by Grandpa Bunny. The weekly themes are:  Begin With Thankfulness to God, God provides our Help in Need,  Adoration is Love Without a List, God’s’ Mercy can make us New again, Knowing Jesus Makes Everything Better, and Serving Others With Jesus’ JOY! Key words in each week’s themes form an acrostic: THANKS! Gratitude is the first prayer of young children and is at the heart of being good Christians…and good Easter Bunnies!

Lent with Grandpa Bunny and Me is created by Cathy Gilmore, the Co-author of the adorable Easter story, Easter Bunny’s Amazing Day in which a tiny bunny learns that trusting in Jesus lifts our fears and fills our hearts with JOY!
